K95 fore-end issue

Post by Blasernovice »

In the last day or two the fire-end of my K95 has become a lot tighter to put on and take off. Anyone else had this issue?

Did you play with the adjustment screw?

Otherwise it could also just be swelling in the wood due to dampness ect.
I'm soft and I don't care.

No fiddling, agree with the swelling. Bit weird as it hasn’t got wet at all. I have dry bags to carry it.

These are the two main options.

Easy enough to check for swelling or tightness with a strip of paper. Did you do your best to seal up the raw wood surfaces in the F/E when you bought the rifle ? Also easy to back the forend screw out a quarter turn and see if that's it. I've never had the F/E screw move, but maybe yours has.

A most unlikely possibility could be some gunk between the front surface of the hinge pin and the matching crescent in the F/E. That would cause the adjustment screw to be tight against the barrel lump.

Wood swells and contracts with humidity, I used to always have changes of impact between winter and summer.

When I first received my K95 the set screw that holds the forend adjustment screw in place was not tightened so mine came out of adjustment until I figured that out and tightened it up. It didn’t have to turn the adjustment screw much to get it right so I would look there first.

It's easy to do, I've adjusted mine twice and now I know the perfect tension to keep it at.
A dehumidifier in the safe will help a lot too.
