Kahles Helia RD
Just picked up one of these to go on the shotgun, I looked at a few but the Kahles just seemed a lot better quality, less fidgety and a lot easier to sight with both eyes open.
It's also very light and seems quite strong.
I will go zero it tomorrow with some slugs but I can tell it's a keeper, I like it a lot better then the aim point I had.

Re: Kahles Helia RD
I zeroed it today, it was very precise with positive clicks, the 2moa dot does not cover too much of the target and it was very clear and easy on the eye.
I chucked a few clays and it was just as quick to track and hit as with just the bead.
I'm very happy with it and think it's going to be a brilliant hunting optic.
I love the simple operation, just press + or - to turn it on, + or - to adjust the light and press both + and - at the same time to turn it off.

Very nice Speedy.

Re: Kahles Helia RD
Thought I should add this bit.
It is very well made, it mounts very neat and secure, I would have liked it if the locking side bar was a little longer but it doesn't hamper its security any.
The glass is top quality, it's made in japen, not Germany but at least its not made in China.
It's easy to see through with both eyes open or one closed, and it is completely parallax free so you can be off with you head alignment a little with no ill effects.
The click adjustment is very positive unlike many cheaper sights and it is quite accurate in its adjustments.
The soft silicone cover is easy to remove and put on, it protects the sight well and has a storage space for a spare battery.
The battery compartment is easy to open with a coin or rim of a shell and that has a lot of advantages in the field.

Re: Kahles Helia RD
You mentioned you like it better than the Aimpoint. Could you expand a little on why you feel that way?

The aim point wasn't as easy to just shoulder and get a sight picture, not on the shotgun anyway.slugslinger wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 6:38 am You mentioned you like it better than the Aimpoint. Could you expand a little on why you feel that way?
Regards,
It is also bigger and heavier.
That's not really say much as it is still very good, it's still very fast to use and light on a rifle but if I was going to put a red dot on an R93 or R8 I'd still pick the Kahles.
On one of those low profile QD rails it would be a very neat and handy choice.
I also much prefer the dot on the Kahles, on higher intensity I found the aim point developed a tail like a comet, and the Kahles doesn't do that.
It still gets a little out of shape but it's more like a triangle then comet with a tail.
I also prefer the glass on the Kahles, only having one lens is always going to be clearer then with two.
Hope that helps.

Rifle for running game (pigs) . . . I have a Picatinny rail on a Sauer 202. Usually 308 Win, 6.5x55, or 6.5x57 . . .
I also have 12 gauge shotgun for turkey.

Re: Kahles Helia RD
It would definitely suit that role, especially on the turkey gun, but it would go great on the sauer and not add any weight to it.

Re: Kahles Helia RD
I worked out the negative side today, operator error.
Took the dog for a whistle this arvo, no luck but on the way back I see a tree root or log that looked like a fox asleep.
I get closer and it gets up so up comes the gun and no dot, I hadn't turned it on.
It was close enough to eyeball it so I shot, massive thump jus in front of its head, it runs up hill and I shoot again, massive thump just next to it so I quickly press the button and the dot comes on, line it up and fire and a massive chunk blows off of its arse.
It jumps and rolls and dances, the dog goes running up, I go to reload and lokk at the spent shells and bugger.
I'd seen some fresh deer sign on the way back and forgot that I'd loaded up with slugs.
I walk up as the dog is chasing it as it jumps and bucks through some blackberry and bracken and hit it near point blank with a load of 46gm #4 shot.
That was less then successful, but it worked out in the end.
Learning curves.
