Ok now I will say that I am the first to poo poo confirmation dog shows (yes have done in the past and the experience has scarred me for life haha), just like people, judging a dog on just what it looks has never made sense to me but I have respect for those breeders that get a champion recognition against their dog's name where both physical appearance and abilities are assessed. However, results from Crufts 2015 this week have made me go a little soft as two of my favourite breeds have taken out their groups.
In gun dog a Flatcoated retriever took out first in the Gun dog group (2nd a pointer, 3rd a welsh springer and 4th the grey ghosts as they say...by the way all excellent looking dogs). In working dog group, it was a Alaskan malamute. I have both these breeds and whilst in many cases they have opposite traits, they complement each other in many others ways its a joy to own.
However if anybody ever was to ask me what was the most absolute picture of happiness I would say it was the look on the Flatties face as it got to do its honour lap after getting the rosette in its mouth. Not sure how to load up a link but if you go to you tube its called Group Judging (Gundog Group) and Presentation | Crufts 2015 ...but go right to the end cause it goes for ~an hour.
cheers

Interesting, thanks for sharing the link. Agree, very proud Retriever on the honour lap!

Wow what a good watch that was.
Isn't watching a good gun dog a a very special thing. Magnificent animals.

Life is too short to hunt with an ugly dog.
