blood tracking

Hi,
I have a 4 and half baverian dog, and would like to know how can i start training him for blood tracking animals, mostly wild boar day time and at night.
The only thing i did is let him play with a ear of a wild boar, and he will hold on to it good.

Any help is welcome, his stage at this moment is 0.

I guess you mean a 4,5 months old bavarian. I`m far from an expert in this field, but what I have learned is that you should start laying out short tracks with blood and wait for a couple of hours and have a treat at the end of the track for the dog. And then make the track longer, and then start waiting a bit longer before letting your dog have a try. And it`s important to keep a way from tracking fresh tracks before your dog has learned the blood tracking bit, and taken the test. Many dogs loose interest in the fake blood track, when they have gotten the taste for the real thing. And trust your dog, he/she are usually right even though you don`t think so.

Yes, 4.5 months is very young but I'd start on some pieces of liver from boar and maybe a hoof. I started mine at about 5 months just to understand what the scent was. Here she is at night.

This is very important and so true!
I failed to do this the first time I hunted deer with my GSP Schroeder. I shot a fallow deer deer in less than ideal conditions and the deer moved right at the last second, and it was hit to far back. I could not find this deer anywhere as it was very thick scrub. I gave the then young and inexperienced Schroeder a chance. He found blood and hair with a minute but unfortunately he wanted to leave the well used game trail and crawl down a steep slope.
It was obvious the deer had run along the game trail as I seen him run that way after the shot. So I made Schroeder go along the game trail and try and pick up the scent. He keep turning around and in the end he just stood about 10 metres behind me looking me in the eyes then looking back to where he originally wanted to leave the game trail (He does this a lot when he wants me to look at something, even a tennis ball). So at that point I let Schroeder take control and we went all the way back to where he wanted to go down the steep slope. Sure enough within a few minutes he was standing in front of the downed deer growling. A big penny dropped in my stupid head at that moment. I didn't need to train this young dog to find deer, I just needed to trust and listen to him.
He finds deer easily ever since that day if they are around, and if they aren't around he will find quail, or hare.
Which is why I like hunting with a drilling.
Trust your dog.

When they know what they are doing you should be able put them on the strike point and they do their thing. I've done a lot of training of my pooches.

I have always been fond of those little fellows.
