Beagles
How many members like beagles? They are what I had growing up. Spent some time at my brothers house, and he had a fairly large tri color male. I have not bee n able to figure out if beagles are as dumb as the act, or if it is just an act. They however are right at the top of the good natured hunting dog class.

Re: Beagles
I like 'em, never had one but been around them a lot, they are stubborn. They are an earth dog, so on that note they are born stubborn
but still good dogs!

Re: Beagles
Beagles have been a happy part of my hunting dogs. Always enthusiastic, I have spent many many days going out with them and enjoying their music as they trailed rabbits, hares, jackals, foxes and even a hyena once.
At one time I had six of them !! Just loved it. Tried training them on wild boar, but they were too bold and stopped letting them go after boars after badly getting two injured.
Great watch dogs too, no one could come near the house without them making a great racket
Unfortunately I lost four of them to a leopard, in fact two in one night.
We dont have a good stock of hunting beagles in India, and if ever I decide to keep them again, will import some good bloodlines.

Re: Beagles
I grew up with beagles, they are a great hound. My brothers and I started our hunting on cottontail rabbits chased by our beagles. When I was in grade school I made a leather collar for our beagle and punched her name in the collar HEIDI. I came home from school put the new collar on her, and she took off, ran in the road and was hit [dead] that collar was not on her neck for 1 minute. My Dad bought us a new beagle and wouldn't you know it he told us her name was Heidi too. Dave W.

Re: Beagles
The last dog my father had before he died was a beagle. Lovely dog but dumber than mud! He just would not leave snakes alone and his life was made all the shorter because of it
He was also one of those dogs that could not help but bark at waves. Made him fun to take for a walk on the beach but got a bit tiring after while when you were surf fishing..... I don't see myself ever owning one.
