One Sick Puppy

Starting Saturday, Annie hasn't been acting "right". She ate all her food and appeared to feel fine on Friday, but Saturday morning, she was acting sluggish and wouldn't eat a bite of her food. My first thought was that she might have another blockage, but with the last two, she wouldn't eat ANYTHING. I brought her in the house and fed her a couple of wieners, and she ate them. Sunday was pretty much the same, and I fed her some more wieners again for a little nourishment. Today, was the same too, and I fed her a couple of wieners and leftover bisquits.
As I type this, she is curled up on the couch beside me asleep.
I guess if she isn't feeling better tomorrow we will have to visit the vet to see what is wrong.

Upon further research, I am fairly confident that she has Lyme disease.

My dogs test positive for Lyme over the years, but only one ever showed symptoms;
Very reduced eating (and she was a chow hog)
She ran a fever
And came up lame like she couldn't really walk without pain, very slow and lathargic.
Ran a course of antibiotics for about a month....first 2x a day....then 1.
Cleared up no problems and she was older at the time, maybe 12(black lab cross).
The test is crappy they have and often shows false positives.I have waited to symptoms to show and that only happened once.I am with my dog(s) all the time and know when something is off.
There is a vaccine, but I haven't used it on them yet.
Hope everything turns out OK....damn they are like family to me.

You are probably well aware that I spend quite a bit of time with Annie too, and like you, I KNOW when something isn't right. The symptoms you described are EXACTLY what is going on with Annie. One of the treatments on the internet is Amoxicillin, and I just happen to have some and started her on it yesterday.
I am sure hoping she gets to feeling better soon. She is a real sweet heart when she is sick, but I am already missing her old crazy self.

Thats what my dogs have been on too.Good move!
Kelly recovered great and I often think she had it for a year before she got real sick. Her 13th year was one of her best since she was young.....2 years later her hips went bad and I had to put her down.
My other dog ,Ogee, tested positive all the time, but never showed symptoms. I had her on Amox. as a preventative several times til she was older.....I lost her last year to a set of seizures, also at 14.
Damn these dogs take it out of you.Hardest days of my life when I lost them......can't imagine how one does losing a child.Got to be devestating.

Dinsdale,
My old Lab will be 15 in October, and I am dreading the day I lose her. It will possibly be the worst day of my life up to this point. Knowing that you will only have 13-14 years(+/-) with your dog is really pretty depressing.
I have been fortunate to be blessed with Sugar and Annie, and I am going to enjoy their companionship as long and as much as I can while I have them.

Is that like the guy went to the doctor for test, a big black labrador retriever came in the room and sniffed him from head to toe, then a big yeller cat walked in and circled him a few times. The doctor then gave him a bill for 550.00. The man asked the doctor what he was being billed for, and the doctor told him "50 dollars for the lab work, and 500 for the cat scan"

I am afraid it is exactly like that. I took her in the vet clinic, and they charged me $81 just to draw blood.

Thanks for asking. The blood work took over a week to come back, and it was negative for Lyme disease but positive for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. The vet check the titers, and they were very low. He thinks she really doesn't have RMSF but probably does have Lyme. Annie is on Doxicyclin and Pregnezone, and she has really bounced back. She isn't fully back to normal but is doing much better.
