I wanted to check in and introduce myself and my regards to those running this board.

I have on order a R8 Ultimate in 3006 fluted barrel from Euoroptic and can’t wait to receive it. I’ve also just completed a purchase with Eddie Brown on scopes, barrel, and rail mounts. Eddie was great to work with and very helpful! Thanks Eddie.

I’ve seen and handled these rifle in Germany on some hunts with my friends over there. I’m also a left hand shooter and wanted to move away from right handed bolt guns and thin the herd some. That’s easy to do when you are ponying up to buy one of these rifles.

I mainly hunt in the SE and primarily in South Carolina for deer, hogs, and coyotes. I’m moving away from my classic 50s vintage Winchester model 70 in 06, and will swap out my HS Precision in 260 rem when I get the new R8 up and running.

Eddie sold me a 308 barrel so I will 06 and 308. I really love the 260 Rem and it is my go to hunting caliber and the HSP SA2000 is a great rifle. Since I have a lot of supplies for the 6.5, I’m thinking about getting a 65X55 or as hard as it is to say this, 6.5CM. I’m just not into the hype on the 6.5CM. Oh well the dilemma begins.

I to am a left handed shooter, and all the lefty options for the Blaser models was one of the things that initially attracted me to buy my first R93. Since then I have sold all but one of my other bolt guns and haven’t looked back.

You're right, you don't need no 6.5 CR, the great 6,5x55 Swede will do anything any other 6,5 can do, let's just say in normal hunting conditions with normal hunters, lol.

I got back home for working for a few days and got a chance to shoot a few rounds out of the new R8. Love it. Shot the 30.06 barrel and had some 150g Barnes TTSX loads in Lake City brass that I had loaded up for my old Winchester M70. I didn’t have time to start a load for the R8 and that will come later. The round chamber perfectly and accuracy was great right from the start. The 06 load is a 150g TTSX over H4350 and speed in the Winchester was 2950fps. I didn’t have my garmin so didn’t check speed on this load out of the R8 but pressure signs were just fine.

I also put the shorter 308 barrel on that I purchased from Eddie and used some left over loads with the same 150g TTSX over Varget and shot a few rounds but they are a bit hot more for recoil so I will need to adjust down a bit since this barrel will be used mainly for night hog hunting where shots are inside 90 yards so I don’t have the need for speed!
