Blaserbuds; the worlds superlative information source, for these products

I have just scored a LH R93 from a pawn shop in Salt Lake City and thereby joined the Blaser mafia. I have spent 50 years looking for and/or building interesting LH rifles, but this is new territory for me. It came with a 30-06 barrel and bolt head, and a 7 mm Rem barrel and bolt head. Those are two cartridges that are pretty similar to one another, so I will probably test both barrels and keep only one. I really would like a 30-06/9.3x62 combination--that seems really versatile.

I wonder if I used to own it. I sold all my R93 stuff to Heritage Arms in SLC about 2004.

In my mind the 7mm and 9.3x62 would be a hell of a lot better pair. Provided they both shot well.

I am curious to know why you would prefer the 7RM/9.3x62 combo over the 30-06/9.3x62. As much as I like the 7RM, it would seem like having two barrels that use the same bolt head would be a significant advantage. I also think the '06 would have some advantage if I ever go back to Africa--possibly easier to scrounge up if needed.

The 30-06 the velocity of the 7mm in my mind is a nicer option, but I would honestly keep both of them, and find a 338, 375, 9.3x62 or 9.3x64 barrel if you could find one to fill the bigger game needs.

These are from Hornady. The 165 CX 30-06 is no slouch.

I was thinking about buying a 308 barrel for my R8, but I think after reviewing the stags on die Springfield I need a 30-06 barrel.

Welcome from another Utah Blaser mafia member. I think it’s a fairly small gang given the looks I get at the local ranges.

I used my first R93 on my Utah mountain goat and Paunsaugunt Muley (as well as in Africa), so definitely memorable experiences. I’ve since added a K95 and R8, as well as a plethora of barrels for them - my warning is you’re likely just getting started…
