At what price point do you choose going with new vs old? It seems that the prices of the two broadly speaking are growing closer?

Depending on if you want an old classic, or a new one, it's a personal choice.
I'd most probably get new myself, then it will last for generations and be a piece of family history rather then adding to another guns history.

If you’re going to use it......then I’d buy new.

New every time.
Nostalgia is no substitute for more precise machining and modern metallurgy.

Yeah, you know there’s a small gun shop in town that’s had an old Rigby for sale for years. Priced about the same as a new Big Game PH, maybe even a little less. Very old, decent shape, with some kind of papers indicating it was the property of the Duke of Wellington or something. Nobody wants it.
The new guns are magnificent.
