Victory V8 2.8-20x56

Post by Sakobud »

Got an amazing deal on a brand new V8 2.8-20x56 with both elevation , windage and zeiss rail that i could not pass up on. ( Should have it with me on Friday )

As much as i want the R8 pro succcess , now i keep pulling more towards the sauer 404 for its packability with that sauer compact case. As i do plan on hunting asia ( Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan for ibex which i nearly booked for next year but the missus got pregnant so that plan is off for a while).

Not taking anything from Blaser as their case is compact but that sauer case is next level of awesomeness. Especially talking with James and reading his story about travelling with the rifle OS seems like a no brainer.

I have not thought about cals that much but 7x64 or 8x68S seems like a good option.

That’s a great scope Sakobud, I have two Zeiss V8’s and they are absolutely great scopes.
Life is too short to hunt with an ugly dog.

It sure is bright mate , Actually brighter than my zeiss victory diarange which claims 95% but i guess numbers mean nothing with high end optics as they are all good.

That is some serious distance you can dial too - My only advise for zeiss would be for the 2.8-20 they should have gave it the same elevation and windage adjustnment as the 1.8-14 model

Too true,
I’m not to fussed as the bullet runs out of energy to perform in the mid to high 800m
The furthest I’ve shot it was 1140m and you can barely see the impact on the rock.

I have the Zeiss 1.8-14 model. An absolutely awesome scope - both for stalking and long range. Perhaps the most versatile of the range. Although the elevation adjustment is stated as being 310cm at 100m you can only get 10 milrad if you use the zero stop feature (1 turret turn) which equates to I metre at 100 metres in elevation. You can bypass that if you pull the pin out inside the turret but you lose your zero stop feature....

And the total elevation adjustment for their 4.8-35 x60 scope is even worse at only 130cm at 100metres. That is shockingly terrible for a long range scope....

I will definetely be looking to acquire the 1.8-14 for the sako 85 and as you stated it is an amazing scope both for stalking and long range. That is where zeiss shoot them self in the foot especially with 2.8-20 and the 4.8-35 models as they do not have many clicks left over once rifle is sighted in and zero stop is set.

I was surprised with the 4.8-35 model having only 130cm at 100 meters when i was going to send my victory
diarange back to get and asv turret put on i was told the max that i could get was 200cm at 100m which for a 3-12x56 scope seemed adequate to me especially when compared to the HT 3-12x56 which has 120cm.

Appreciate it guys , i got home late from work so could not play with it much but from what time i had with it i am over the moon with it.

It is as heavy as i would carry on a rifle any heavier would be just to much for me personally.

Now just waiting on a blaser buds sambar hunt to give it a go if a queenslander is welcome :P
