Hunting opportunity near Melbourne ?

Post by Currawong »

G´Day

I´m a hunter from Germany and i´ll move to Melbourne in September. Of course I like to go on with hunting down under and also bring my rifle and my dog .
For importing fire arms into Australia I need an invitation from a club or anyone else who is able to invite people for hunting or shooting.
So i´m looking for a member ship in a club or for anything else would help me .That would help me to find some mates and to learn something about aussie hunting as well.
I also would be a helping hand in a hunting area of a hunting - or safari organisation or at private land, if I get an opportunity for hunting.

Greets Stephan

Welcome Currawong. if your looking for gun clubs to join I would try the SSAA(sporting shooter association of a Australia) 1st which is the larges club here in OZ. They have the lot regarding shooting. The ADA (Australian deer Association) you have the Gippsland Deer Stalkers Association you have the Victorian field and game association this is a shotgun club. you have Metro gun club in Epping for clay target shooting which is also a field and game club as well. If you where look at shotgun clubs I would try the Seymour club for field and game that is a great club but are all up themselves a bit but a very good club if you live on that side of town if not the Cranbourne/Frankston one is also very good as well. I try and get to the Austrian club for the general ADA meeting . Austrian Club: 76 Sheehans Rd, West Heidelberg Ph 9459 8686. Place to shoot 1st I would try Sydney rd Coburg...no just joking  All comes down to what you would like to hunt if it Deer and Sambar your after you have about 90% of the Victorian high country for that for stalking. Ducks in season any where there is water, rabbits the same foxes the same. If you check the DSE( department of Sustainability and environment or the department of sparks and embers as we call it as there always lighting fires that get out of control. This site will help you fined out the rules for hunting and if you do go after Sambar they have links to the legal spots you can hunt. Um I will keep think for you but try these links and see how you go. There is a few Aussies on here that will also be very happy to help you out as well as they are all a great bunch of blokes and are all full of great information about the place :liar:  .

Hello Stephan, I live about an hour north of Melbourne and would be happy to help. I guess one of the most important questions is what sort of hunting do you like to do? I think the advice you got from Deerhunter is very good and I would definately join the SSAA as they have something for hunters of rabbits to buffalo and everything in-between.
Cheers

Okay Stephan,

If you are from Bavaria, then you might want to join the Australian Deer Association melbourne branch. They meet once every two months in the "Austrian Club". In the Austrian club you can meet german speaking barmen/barwomen. You might even see a kangaroo. It is quite nice is inside with many game heads. Not sure about the schnitzel though  :flags-australia:

If you want to shoot on private property the easiest way is to get a girlfriend who's father owns a farm.
If you want to shoot in public forests, there are a couple of ways to do this and its not very hard.

Let us know closer to the date.

Don't forget if you can't bring your rifle, the biggest blaser dealership in Australia is in melbourne.
cheers chuck.

Welcome to BlaserBuds Currawong. But . . . first before moving you have to find out if they have Pils down under :)

What type of Hund you have, BGS? Waidmannsheil, Dom.
