New Benelli U/O shotgun

Post by mchughcb »

Was able to have a hold of the new benelli 828U

Was impressed it has a tilting block like the K95. Was nice and light and pointed well. Elevated rib and fish scales engraving on the receiver was neat.

I like it.

Completely adjustable by using spacers on the action and the recoil system goes a third into the stock.

Trigger was good too. I realise no matter what I buy its going to get hammered in the field but the wood looks good.

Jaeger's vertical block lock in a shotgun

From memory the original patent was filed in 1906, not sure just how different Benneli's version will be to warrant another patent :snooty:

Yes, I didn't care for the silver fish scale. Black is a nice understatement.

If they only come in 26 and 28" barrels, they're doomed here in the states.

The block containing the firing pins locks into an extension of the barrels behind the chamber, allowing the rest of the receiver to be made out of light metal whilst high pressure loads can be used comfortably.

As stated above, to my eye this is just another incarnation of Jagers 1906 patent. There is a pretty good discussion on the history of that lock and its recent incarnations such as the S2 here http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat ... t=all&vc=1

Some quality opinions there. Ole Nigel was challenged to bring any double to shoot against the bbf. In the end the guy was a huge BS artist and hasn't been seen or heard of for years.
