Well it looks like the dachshund was dropped from the leaked draft regulatory impact statement so I'm going to get my hunting organisation to go and try to get it ammended when the official version gets out.
The guys have taking some convincing that dachshunds can be used but videos like this one is swaying their perception.

Your dog has come along real well.
I have always maintained, there is no such thing as a poor dog, its only the ability of its master to draw out its natural instincts by proper training. Good work Chuck.
In engineering school, we were struggling with understanding Phase Lag when our professor explained it to us with this poem on a Dachshound:
There was a Dachshound once so long,
He hadn't any notion,
How long it took to notify,
His tail of an emotion.
And so it was, that though his eyes were filled with tears of sadness,
His little tail went wagging on because of previous gladness.

A little birdie told me today that come thursday the regulations will be changed so I can use a dachshunds for hunting deer and slugs out of the BBF, if so then the dog and the BBF will have been instrumental in the change. I wait to see it in print, three days to go

Well its all happened. I have been on the look out for almost 2 years for a wire hair dachshund. In desperation I was looking at importing one, or going for the drever or draacksback.
Then luck would have it, some came on the market two days ago. So with some phone calls, I find its grandfather is an australian show champion with american lines and the mother is show champion with british lines. Apparently they are not hunters but track and kill stuff which should be in the back yard and farm
This ones got the pin wirehair so almost no maintenance or shedding
So we pick up the new girl in a few weeks and then its another deer hunter in the making
Going to be hell in the house for the next 12 months

Excellent find !!! Good move buying a bitch. I'll watch this with a great deal of interest. It seems that the euro wirehairs have a bit more hunting "zing" in them than our smoothhairs. A pity that, in my experience, they struggle in heavy country and deadfall, but then maybe we shouldn't be pushing throught such stuff anyway. Certainly as I get older, I am finding such country more difficult
They certainly tick all the boxes otherwise - compact, clean, smart etc.
The next twelve months should be no real problem. The fun will start when the new girl gets big enough for the two of them to need to establish who is going to be boss. If they are similar in skills and size that could take a while and be a bit messy.

Yes when they both grow up it will be interesting. She will be between 10 to 12kg and the current bitch is 8.5kg. So she will be bigger and they tell me she is the most adventurous of the litter. The missus wants her snipped but I'm calling the shots on this one. Her bloodline is of champions and if she turns out to be a super hunter it will be a complete waste.
Of course all dogs have their own personalities but the breeders are telling me they are the supermen of the breed.

She looks cute alright. First person to convince was the missus. She passed that test. She even has a new russian name for her. Frosya. Just cleaning up the 3rd bedroom so when she takes a squat not on the puppy pampers I don't have to move half the furniture to clean it up

Cute little girl. Will be intertesting to see the hunting dynamics between the two and just how different to wire hair is from the smooth?
