Improving the BBF

Post by retrieverman »

I had a conversation with Mauserman this afternoon about the only flaw that I can find with my BBF 97, and that is the cheesy "weatherstripping" between the barrels. He had mentioned to me a while back that he was working on an aftermarket "gap filler" for a S2, and I called him to see where he stood on that project and if it could be adapted to a BBF. Unfortunately, like many of us here, he has never seen a BBF "in person" and doesn't know exactly how the weatherstripping fits on the gun, but he is willing to look into it for me.

Though I am very happy with my BBF 97, this "weather stripping" between the barrels is a joke, and for what Blaser charges for these guns, they should be able to come up with a better design than what they have. I am a "tinkerer" and don't have a problem "improving" a factory gun, but I have a HUGE problem having to "tinker" with a $3000+ gun.Image

I will keep the board posted on this project.

To me I realize that it is only a cosmetic thing to fill the gap, but found that my rifle shoots better with it removed. It must dampen the barrel inconsistantly. I have left mine out and will only install it when I am out in public 8-)

Limbsaver makes a round rubber Doughnut type piece that fits all the way around the barrel to take out any harmonics... Perhaps I should order two and have them shipped to you guys... I bet you could carve a groove in it for the second barrel...

Hell you could sell the idea to Blaser to include it as standard equipment on future BBF's

Gentlemen...

I have a vew comments.

As a user/hunter with a couple of British Double rifles from before WWI, and using a couple of traditional German Drillings....

I appreciate the FINEST hunting guns ever made by man...

HOWEVER...

The Blaser Combo Guns are NEW TECHNOLOGY. Truth be told, for best performance, there should be NOTHING between the barrels...

And they should not be joined tightly together anywhere except the breach.

Blaser puts the "rubber stuff" between the barrels, because most combo gun users, are not ready to break from tradition, YET.

Blaser Combo guns DO what traditional combo guns cannot do, ie have consistant zeros as the barrels heat up.

My Blasers shoot as good as most bolt actions, without removing the "rubber".

But if you gun shoots better "naked" then DO IT. :D

I do not think I would spend any extra money to alter the "Blaser System". I would either shoot it the way it is or remove the "rubber".

Because when it comes to hunting and shooting at game "BEAUTY IS AS BEAUTY DOES."

However, THERE IS A LIMIT.

I would not put one of those THINGS on the END OF MY @#%*.

Much less on one of my barrels. :geek: :ugeek: :o

Unfortunately, I am with NE 450 on this one. I won't be putting anything with the Limbsaver name on a Blaser especially my BBF. 8-)

Frankly the rubber filler turned me off a little on the BBF. My rifle must shoot exceptionally well, but I don't want to look dorky in the woods, especially when I'm by myself. For me, good looks complete the package, which is why I married a Swedish girl.

I appreciate history and prefer the Winchester 1885 over the Remington 700, but on the other hand, if Winchester had synthetics in the 1800's then they would have used a synthetic stock. I guess I won't sweat about the rubber on the BBF, because if Blaser followed the traditional lines then the BBF would cost thousands more and it would financially be out of my reach.
