Springfield XDM 9mm
I have been looking for a good, accurate handgun for a couple months now and I think I have settled on the XDM 9mm with the 4.5" barrel. Reviews are very good for this handgun, but I trust the forum members here more than others. If any of you have one of these guns please let me know your thoughts.
thanks, Coop

The best advice I can give you is to go to a shooting range, with some friends that have different pistols, or rent several different pistols and shoot them 20 rounds or so each, to see which ones you like the best.
Do this before you buy anything.
I would be sure and shoot the Glocks, SIGs, and H&K's if possible in addition to the Springfield.
Most of these companies make 9mm's in different barrel and frame lengths. Try to shoot as many of them as you can.
It will be money and ammo well spent IMHO.

If you are looking for a smallish concealed carry gun, read Coracks post on the SIG 239.

Agree with 450. Try them and see what works for you. There are some very good guns out there that I don't care for because they don't work well in my hand. H&K is an example. I've never found one that feels good. Sig is another. Don't care for the feel. Yet both are very good handguns.
Another one you might consider is the M&P series by Smith & Wesson. Lots of friends of mine have them and are very pleased with them. They did a nice job on that pistol. And it's priced on the lower end of the affordable range.

Probably not a good sign that nobody here owns one?

I don't know if I'd go that far. Speaking for myself I've moved on from the pistol world. After carrying one for all those years and owning a bunch in my younger days I don't get much of a thrill out of any new handgun. Burned out would probably a good way to put it. I've got a few and I'm content with them so I don't even give handguns a second look when I'm in a store. I did trade for the 629 this year but mostly for a 44 mag to have available when hog hunting. (or bear if I get that far) And I've had it for 4 months and haven't shot it. Other than a few folks here most of the residents don't seem to be into handguns that much.
In the LE world around here where I live it's Glock

Couldn't stand it any longer so my new 9mm long barrel XDm will be here next week. It's getting transfered into Dundee Cabelas from West Virginia. Can't wait. Really want a Veridian Green Laser for it now to complete it.

Good deal. Be sure you let us know how it shoots. I suspect you'll be quite happy with it. As long as you stick with the name brands you should be getting a good gun. After that it gets down to the little things that we like or don't like about each one.
