110 gr vs 130 gr in 308

Post by Olsen »

Now I been using Barnes TTSX 130 gr in my 308, for some years, we cant use lead bullets in Denmark anymore, since last year april.

But now all shops, actually only 4 shops in Denmark, who sell reloading stuff  has sold out in 130 grain.

But they have a lot in 110 grain, so the question is, would that be too light for like Fallow deer

I know its just 20 grain, and it will get more speed, but have any of you hunted, " big " game, with 110 grain in 308

Nope.

Shot plenty of fallow with 100gr in 243Win though. They died.

I have used Barnes 110ttsx in my 30-06. Load is real fast and accurate. I have not used it on deer a lot but shot a couple whitetail doe and the bullets went through and the deer died instantly. Same result with a feral hog I shot.

I've used the 130s on roe deer but never the 110s. I'm sure the 110s would topple roe and fallow just fine.

I have most (maybe 40 bullets) of a box of 130s you can have if you like. Some have been pulled because I stopped using the 308 on game but they will shoot fine.

Should be able to mail them to Denmark, I buy bullets from Germany no problem.

I use Reimer Johannsen when I can't find things here. They do not seem to have them in stock now either but you could ask if they know when they might get 'em.

A 110gn barnes will do the job just fine, they aren't a particularly tough animal and a 110gn travelling fast will hit them hard.
I've used 130gn softpoints in the 308 and the 110gn barnes will do just as good or better.
Then I've killed them with a 55gn soft point in the 223rem on them so it's git to be a lot better then they were.
I'm soft and I don't care.

110g should be good.
When you think about it, a 243 Win is just a necked-down 308, and it uses the lesser 100g bullets quite successfully for deer.
Also, your 110g will have better velocity than the 130g in your 308. .
