Shellholder Deck Height

Post by 9.3x64 »

Hi,
Standard shellholder deck height is 0.125 inches.
I need a deck height of 0.110 inches to size for reliable feeding.
Is 0.015 inches to much to take off a RCBS shellholder?
Will it still extract cases from the die reliably, or will it let me down one day?
Has anyone taken 0.015 inches off a shellholder and used it to load a lot of cases without failing?

Thankyou Allan

I don't think .015 will weaken it.

Suck it and see. If it does fail, it is unlikely to be total and spontaneous, and even if it is, there will be a way to get another shell holder into the press.

I bit the bullet and am having the die shorten 15 thou instead.

That'll work. And if by any chance in the future you need some of that .015 back, the Redding extra height shell holders are convenient.

I had to have it done with my 338lapimp as the dies couldn't be adjusted any more for bump. Have never had an issue to date.
Measure it, when it’s on the deck
