200GR ELD-X in .300WM
Hi, have recently purchased a R8 in .300wm but it’s not performing quite as well as I’d hoped. I bought a box of 150gr federal for sighting in etc (all the local shop had) which grouped at just over an inch at 100m. I reload so started to develop a load with 200GR eldx but haven’t manage to get anything better than just under an inch. Plan to play about with seating depth now but thought I would ask the question if anyone is using them, how they shoot and at what OAL you find works best.
Thanks BS

I have similar results. I suspect it is the 1:11 twist.

My .300 Weatherby Mag K95 won’t shoot anything heavier than a 180 grn. Bullet it especially hates the 200 Grp. Eldx.

I concur with the 1:11 twist being to slow, you are going to need to go with a lighter bullet. I would try the 178 ELD-X. My experience is that the ELD-X bullets don't like to jump more than 20 thou.

Thanks to everyone for their reply’s, I will try to track down a box of 178 ELDX to give a try. Does anyone else have any recommendations of other bullets that they use that work well?

I also had great luck with the Barnes TTSX BT and Hornady GMX (now called CX) both in 165 Grains for my R8 .300 WM.

They hit end on and accurately out to 700M which is as far as I've tested. They don't have a plastic tip so maybe shorter than the eld-x?Beretta Shooter wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 1:46 pmI fear the 210gr Berger may be to long also to stabilise tho? Will give the 178gr ELDX a try If I can get a box. Failing that 165gr Sierra game changers seem to be available if anyone has tried them?

That’s a good point about the tip, I hadn’t considered that. They will be on my list to try if I can’t pick up a box of 178gr ELDXAf300e wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 4:52 pmThey hit end on and accurately out to 700M which is as far as I've tested. I worked up a load with the 178ELDX and got good accuracy but I didn’t get the velocity I wanted. Worked up to a max load with a 180 Partition got great accuracy and 3100 fps. That is what I use.

Another bullet to add to my list to try, I fear at this point it may be what I can get my hands on other than what I would like to try, I’m travelling to Orlando on holiday next month so will be visiting bass pro, hopefully I can pick up a few supplies when I’m there to try back home.
