Hello from Germany :)

Post by VISI_24 »

Hello Blaserbuds,

I am an avid hunter from Germany and I just registered on the forum. I currently mostly use my Krieghoff Neptun Drilling, as the autumn/winter time is the perfect condition. I mainly hunt roe deer, wild boar, hare, red fox, and the occasional feathery creature. I am currently building a DWM Mauser 98 action from 1909 to the likes of the early 20th century Rigby/H&H look and feel. I have choosen 7x57 Mauser/.275 Rigby as the designated caliber, and this will be my go-to rifle for most of the season from May-Oct. I one day also hope to use the rifle in Scotland for a Red Stag hunt and Africa for plains game.

I personally have a soft spot for firearms made of wood and steel, and I am truly a sucker for high grade wood stocks. I regularly have access to mid-high grade stocks for Blaser R8s (from the classic sporter stock to thumb hole versions), Mauser M03, M98 and several others. So if anyone is ever looking to fit their rifle in a spectacular new stock, please let me know! Furthermore, in case someone is looking for a specific German-made firearm (Heym, Krieghoff, Mauser, Blaser, Merkel, Sauer, Ferlach gunsmiths, etc) I would be happy to help in fascilitating, as I am sure they are easier to find here than elsewhere. I will also make a post in the classifieds.

Thanks and I look forward to insightful gun-talk on the forum!

PS: pictures of my Drilling and the M98 stock ready for its high gloss finish :)

Thanks, I searched for a veeery long time. It was made in 1972 and in spectacular condition. I then recently put this stock on it. I really like the look of the old Zeiss 1.5-6x36 scope, but am contemplating on changing it to a more modern scope with illuminated reticle.

Lovely, nothing better than a day in the field with a good gun dog.

Welcome aboard. Where in Germany do you hunt? I have been fortunate to have been able to hunt in the Forest Hesse in the area where my forefathers lived,

I am based in the Nuremberg area and hunt there as well. Hessia has some beautiful forests including the "Spessart Forest" one of, if not even the largest forests in Germany.

Perhaps you could explain the EWB requirement for those of us who don't live in the EU. I've seen items on eGun.de that I'd like to buy that aren't restricted in the US, like barrels and bolt heads, but they appear to be subject to EWB. These parts are unrestricted in the US, meaning they can be freely and legally sent via ordinary mail / package carriers without any special requirements, so there are no legal difficulties at this end.

As I don't speak / write German and am forced to use Google Translate to view the auctions, I hesitate to write the sellers for an explanation of the proper EWB process.

Thanks for the reply. When the virus is under control, I hope to return and hunt again.

Welcome aboard. Great looking drilling and the stock will make a fine rifle.

I’d love to hear more about the German training and testing for hunting dogs.
