Zeiss HT?

Hi Everybody,

I am a new member of this forum and I am very happy that I found it. I would have a question and I am curious what you think about this situation which I am going to explain:

So, a few days ago I bought a brand-new ZEISS Victory HT 3-12x56 riflescope.
When it arrived I unpacked and performed a quick check.I noticed a very strange thing which I have never seen before.
I made two videos which I uploaded on YouTube and here are the links.

The problem is when I move my head (it doesn’t matter in which direction) it seems that the image waves (I don’t know the best/better word in English but you will see in the video what I mean).

I am not talking about parallax, because the recticel itself doesn't move from aiming point, the problem is that whole picture/image is "moving".
I have never had any Zeiss riflescope before but I guess that it is not a normal behavior!?

What do you think about it? Does anybody have this riflescope, if yes please share your experience!

I have 3/12/56 and 2.5/10/50 Victory HTs. I checked and they both are like yours, but the 2.5/10/50 is less so. I could check only on low power because of short available viewing distance.

Never noticed it in use.

My Swaro Z5 is not like this.

Call it a Zeiss thing. I have no idea why - maybe some compromise in the optical design to help achieve 95% light transmission ?

The only people who know are at Zeiss, and they won't tell us.

Wow, that is not pretty and extremely off putting I'm sure.
I don't have any Zeiss scopes, Swaro's and Kahles for me thanks and none do that.

I have seen similar in the cheaper HD5 models and even a V8.
I put it down to not having it set right for my eye at the time.
The set up concern was noted in an earlier post advising that the Zeiss appears to be sensitive to individual set up, maybe re-do it and see what happens?
Out of interest, what range is the image and at what magnification is it in your vids?

Thanks for your reply. You helped me a lot but now I am more disappointed...I cant believe that a scope which cost 2000 EUR has this "issue".
The strange thing is that I can also notice this distortion when I aim any target (not only objects with straight lines or shape), tree, bushes etc, actually it seems that they are moving which is very funny.
If I had known it before I wouldn't have bought this scope.

I tried to set and achieve the best focusing of eyepiece (actually i recorded the video with this "best" focused eyepiece). With different "settings" the parallax appeared and the viewed image was getting unclear/hazy.
I don't know what do you mean "low power"? It was recorded during the day with good daylight, the distance was around 80 meter and magnification was set to 7. I also noticed distortion on lower magnification.

I am thinking about that to take back Zeiss and replace it to Kahles Helia 2,4-12x56.

I have two 1.5-6X42 HT with 60 Reticle and one 3-12X56 Ht also with 60 reticle. All three have the illuminated dot dead center as long as your eye is properly aligned.

I have an old Zeiss Victory 2.5-10x50, I don't have any issue with this.
In my opinion, in above situation, I believe it isn't a proper alignemt betven riflescope axis and your eye axis (or phone camera axis), and also, if is choose the correct eye relief.
Usually, in a riflescopes stands, for testing a riflescopes, is done with this mounted on the rifle or fixed on a rifle stock, to ensure a correct optical axis alignment and correct eye relief. Usually, for shooting a film or photo, with a riflescope, in proper conditions, are used adapters, that fix the phone on the riflescope, with the optical axes aligned and corect eye relief.

I have had quite a few Zeiss rifle scopes all my life, some are HT’s and a couple of V8’s. I have never experienced these issues with any of them.

I have the 624i.
Big scope which didn’t really suit the R8 in my opinion, so I put on a Custom Remington and went the Swarovski Z8i for the R8. A much better match.
