Gun shops in Frankfurt worth visiting.

Post by Rod »

Well every dark cloud has a silver lining so they say……

Anyway, because I and the missus both tested positive for Covid in Canada we couldn’t board our ship for an expedition cruise up to Alaska. But we’ve been given a credit….and long story short we will be back in Norway next summer.

Haven’t booked the flights yet and I’ve got an item on my bucket list I want scratched.

I want to shoot running target, preferably with a centre fire hunting rifle. So any suggestions as to where I could possibly find a public range that would cater for a tourist shooter ?

I know it’s a long shot but if I don’t ask I’ll never know 👍

Thanks

I'm only an hour away, hunting and fishing guide, just saying!

Thankyou. I'll keep these details handy...... and a Roe deer stalk would be very tempting.

Hi Rod,

I can suggest three places:

1. Corinium Rifle Range - near Cirencester - https://www.coriniumrange.com/ Paul is an excellent instructor and will have a Blaser at the ready in a range of calibres. Day trip from London.

2. Holland and Holland Shooting Grounds, Ruislip (Nr London) They have an excellent indoor video range https://hollandandholland.com/shooting-grounds. May still have Blasers available but more likely to use the new Beretta rifles. V unlikely to use an H&H unless your own!

3. British Sporting Rifles Club - National Shooting Centre, Bisley, Surrey - running boar and running deer based on former Olympic formats. Need a member to accompany you. Lots of other ranges at Bisley out to 1,200 yards.

Think you would most enjoy Corinium.

DM if you would like more info.

Thanks Ado.....will probably be 2 months before I book flights....hopefully they'll be Oslo or Bergen via London.

Well…tickets to Norway have been booked. Looks like I’m going to visit Svalbard 🥳 in the Summer of 2023. I will be transiting through Frankfurt and will have three days there on the return leg. So, are there any gun shops or maybe a range (running target) that would be worth checking out ?

Thanks

Been to Frankfurt many times. If you have a couple of hours you can visit the old Roman ruins where they had central heating. Ironically 2000 years later, they are burning wood again to keep warm.

The wife was on Svalbard back in the beginning of September for a conference. Absolutely loved it! Mind you, she is a twitcher, and they're an odd lot.... Pity you're on the wrong side of the peninsular or we might have found a running paper moose for you to shoot at.

I’m really looking forward to visiting Svalbard….we visited Norway, Sweden and Denmark a few years ago and really enjoyed the place. We did the trip from Bergen to Kirkeness and back on a Hurtigtuten ship. Was bloody unbelievable. My favourite part was driving around Sweden for a week. Apart from the arguments with the wife about me driving on the wrong side of the road and getting continually geographically embarrassed. Was great….essentially the area around Motala. We were going to visit Sweden again…..but we don’t have enough time. This trip is just an opportunistic trip….take your travel credit now or loose it. I need to get back home in time to put my gear together and to get to BC for my moose hunt 🥳

Hopefully one day I’ll get back to Sweden and kill some running paper moose 👍

Cheers Rod

I have always enjoyed spending time in Sachsenhausen, when in Frankfurt. It’s in the south part of the city on the river. Very laid back and a nice place for a bier.

I always get the train to Zwingenberg to the South and stay with friends, but on the way I get off in Darmstadt which is only an hour from Frankfurt on the train. I visit Frankonia Weiterstadt which is a Gunshop I have always enjoyed.

But if I had three days in Frankfurt I would do a organised trip to the Rhein and do a day cruise. Absolutely beautiful.
They often start in Mainz which has the Guttenburg museum, which I found interesting. I did visit a really cool tiny gunshop in Mainz years ago, but I cannot remember the name.

Life is too short to hunt with an ugly dog.
Hunt with a German Shorthaired Pointer.

👍 reminds me of the old joke…..what did they use for lighting in [insert name of failed state or South Australia] before candles?

Answer: Electric lights 🤷‍♂️
