.300 RUM info
Hi,
Does anyone have information on reloading for the .300 RUM? Is it true that you have to use an UM bolthead or can you use a Magnum bolt head?
Thanks

Re: .300 RUM info
I have two friends in Colorado that shoot RUMs. One a 7mm RUM and the other a 300 RUM. Both swear by heavy Bergers and RL33 as the bullets and powder to use.
I don't know if a MA bolt head wood work or not but since they make a bolt head specifically for the RUM then that would be the one I would use.

Re: .300 RUM info
I have an R93 with a Custom 338Rum barrel and im currently using the MA bolt head. I've had no issue so far. My understanding on it after doing some investigations is that there was some issues with the case getting stuck and the MA bolt head wouldn't open around the bottom of the case. So the face was open less than a thou and that fixed the problem.

We have an R93 300RUM at my workplace and it has an UM Bolthead installed.

Re: .300 RUM info
Can you do the inverse and use a MU bolt head on a .375 H&H barrel? Ordered a used rifle that comes with 300 RUM barrel, bolt, etc., and was wondering if I can just put a .375 on there?

Re: .300 RUM info
I use ADI powder and ADI AR2217 seems to be the go to powder for it. Hodgdon H1000 is the same powder as ADI AR2217. IMR 4350 equivalent is AR2209 which I found a bit better for the 9.3x62,338wm and the 243 cals. I seem to get better accuracy and speeds out of the AR2217 powder.TexasWestPointer wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 3:04 pm I'm reloading for the 300 RUM am trying IMR 4350 and the 180 grain Norma bondstrike, any advice for this load? Re: .300 RUM info
Guys, I can't get my 300 RUM barrel to group. I see Deer Hunter 338 Mag above is using ADI AR2217, but I can't find that or H1000 locally.
I have access to tons of IMR 4350. Does anyone have a good load for this? Any advice is helpful. Thanks much!

Re: .300 RUM info
IMR 4350 is equivalent to ADI AR2209 which is not really best suited for the RUM's. 180 gr projectiles have load date for AR2225 in the 300rum on the ADI web site. If you can get AR2225 which its equivalent is Reloader 25 or Retumbo in Hodgdon or 24N41 in Vihtavuori that might be better. I've only used AR2209/IMR4350 in my 338WM, 9.3x63 or the 243. I also like to use the fed gold mag match primers as well.TexasWestPointer wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 8:39 pm Guys, I can't get my 300 RUM barrel to group.
