K95 350 Legend

Post by MM »

My K95 is my favorite rifle ever, but I could not use it in my home state of Ohio to deer hunt with. When the 350 Legend was announced earlier this year I thought perfect I will get a 222 barrel rebored and chambered to 350 legend and the extractor will work very easy fix. I got the rebored and chambered barrel back but the extractor would not let the round go all the way into the barrel. I called the gentleman who did the work and he told me he was not a gunsmith he only rebores. After the anger faded panic set in. I found a gunsmith quite by accident and after a discussion he said he would take a look at it. Off the barrel went and he called me after he inspected it but I had to assume the risk it wouldn’t work. A week later I got the barrel back and was able to load two rounds no problem test fire an they extracted perfectly. I finally went to the target range over the weekend and tried a couple different factory loads. Other than the Winchester 145 Fmj load they all shot with adequate accuracy but it really liked the federal 180 grain loading the best turning in the best 3 shot group. I want to try a couple more different loads but I think the Federal will do the trick, and I am excited for deer season with my K95.

That will be very sweet to use :)

Modifying a K95 rimless extractor would be more the province of an old school gunsmith who knows his way around shotguns and the compleat firearm. Definitely not a job for the average lathe and mill gunsmith of today.

Excellent result :D

Very nice indeed, there will always be a few hiccups in trying something like this but it was worth it in the end.
It will be the finest rifle in Ohio's Woods come deer season.
I'm soft and I don't care.

Cool project and good for you for having the stones to go to carving up a K95 barrel. With that 180 grain load your freezer should never run out of backstrap.

Any reason you did the 350 Legend and not a 357 Max? I think the Max would of been awesome

Either way, What an awesome set-up on a K95 rifle. I should of never sold my k95. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb. My favorite Blaser ever.

Good luck Monday with your opener, I wish I was there. I was lucky to punch my tag on a nice 11 point Nov. 1st with my Excalibur in Vinton County.

That was a good idea for a K95, well done. If I ever find some Federal 180 350L I'll have to give them a try in my R93. I did spring though and got Dies and Bullets to reload for it. Finding Ammo nowadays is more miss than hit.
-------- There are those who only reload so they can shoot, and then there are those who only shoot so they can reload. I belong to the first group. Dom --------------

Congrats on your buck. My hunting property is in Brown Co. down near the river. I have seen a couple bucks but nothing big enough that I want to shoot. I picked the 350 over the 357 max for a variety of reasons but the main one was available factory loads vs. the 357 max Bellm that would strictly be a hand loading proposition. Here is a picture of a buck I passed on 10-31.
