Covid 19 culinary opportunity

Post by Oscar »

So with still a good supply of venison from last year the lock down is presenting an opportunity for some additional game meat adventures in the kitchen. Have been doing a combo of old any new. For instance tomorrow will be having a spicy venison makhani. However a few other dishes include

Venison chilli con carne
Venison savoury mince
Satay venison with peanut sauce
Venison and red wine pies

For our South African members, last weekend I made a venison bunny chow which was received with a big thumbs up from the friends over. Will be making that again.

Will take some photos and post as the experiments develop.

Sounds interesting
I thought Bunny Chow was an Asian adult film star but a google search proves otherwise

If on a South African flavour kick venison mince works well in bobotie https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/bobotie

Looks good
Do I spy cauliflower? The price on cauliflowers has gone up exponentially like the virus diagnoses up here.

Yes there is cauliflower in there....so a few pics post slow cooking for more than 10 hours...including some home made Raita, pickle ( upside down photo) and cooked papadums.

Slightly different culinary opportunity. I broke out the pickled egg recipe that Ron posted in 2017.

My daughter and son in law were forced to close their restaurant and had a serious lot of fresh produce on hand. Typically being the folks that they are they gave most away to their staff and families.

I ended up with dozens of eggs that needed using so the pickled recipe was dusted off much to the horror of immediate family

Luckily the local supermarket had all the preserving stuff - spices, hot sauce and vinegar.

Goat curry was my favourite, but it should work with deer too.
I used curry, mustard powder and malt viniger in mine.
I'm soft and I don't care.
