7X65R 175PP Woodleigh RL22

Post by secondtry »

(Cartridge) 7x65R

(Brand of bullet) Woodleigh PP

(Weight of bullet) 175g

(Brand of brass) RWS

(Type of powder) RL22

(Grains of powder) 58.5 (very slightly compressed)

(Brand, and type of primer) Federal 210 GM

(COAL) 3.451"

(CBTO)

(FPS/MPS) 2790fps (est. see notes)

(Rifle) Blaser K 95

(Barrel Length) 60cm

(Scope) 3-12x56 Zeiss Victory HT

(Weather conditions & temp) Calm. 50/60 C

(Accuracy @ 100 yards/meters) .77"

(Notes) Stopped chronoing at 58g/2765. 58.5g is mild pressure wise. At 60g, groups are closing again, and I believe that best accuracy may be around 60.5. I have loaded rounds ready to test this, but regardless of the outcome, my working load will be 58.5, mainly because recoil at 60g is becoming unpleasant, although pressure at 60g is still fine.

That’s brilliant information mate, and Thankyou for sharing.
Those results virtually mirror my experience with the 7x64 and RL 19, also with RWS cases and the Woodleigh 175PPSN.
Although I used RWS primers and only load to 86mm.
I found feeding issues at 88mm so backed the OAL down to 86mm for the sake of reliability, a problem you do not have with the K95.
I too also noticed that the recoil was very sharp at 60 grains.
I am very keen to see how you go with any further testing.
One thing is for sure the 7x64 / 7x65R are very effective cartridges.
I once saw my brother shoot a sizeable Fallow buck at 280 metres with your combination above. I have never seen a deer drop so quickly, it didn’t even take a step, it just collapsed where it stood.
They’re is something special with a long heavy 7mm.

Thanks again for sharing.

I will say that is one advantage of the Blaser over the M03, for some reason the 7x64 mag is limited to 86mm. Funny thing is, in my rifle ~ 83mm is the accuracy sweet spot so I can’t get near those velocities. That said a 160 @ nearly 2800 ( have done some additional fine tuning ) is no slouch either.
