Hello from newcastle, NSW, Australia
I'm a keen hunter who hunts mostly semi mountainous (at least for oz) chasing pigs and deers (fallow and reds) by stalking...a combination of thick forest & open grasslands.....so range goes from 30m to 300m +..... In the summer months i bring the quad out & head to some large properties chasing pigs during the heat of the day thru lignum or dam sitting in the twilight for them & spotlighting from ute at night.
I have always loved eurooptics with all my current rifles 204 ruger, 25-06, 7mm remmag & 30/30 geared with scopes from them....bought when the au$ was on par. Ive finally saved the coin for the blaser r8 success, replacing all my rifles ...getting 6.5creedmoor instead of 2506....well that's a long intro but gday

Quite a few Australian members here so plenty of people that can regale you with fun tales of obtaining Blasers and parts in this country, and the waiting time involved - be prepared

Good choice, plenty of us here have done the same and headed down the rabbit hole.
I'm soft and I don't care.

Re: Hello from newcastle, NSW, Australia
Welcome, you will love your R8, I love mine so much I have two of them, a high grade wood Jager for hoity doity hunts and a professional for rough hunts. I won't say how many barrels I have as it might give the impression I'm addicted to buying more barrels all the while trying to downsize my collection. I also have multiple sight set ups for most of the barrels to switch from close and fast to low light to long distance use. That is one of the great things about the Blaser scope mount system. It allows switching sighting systems without worrying about loss of precise zero. They are rock solid as you will soon see. Just be sure you adhere to the instructions which say do not apply any oil to the mounting surfaces, this is crucial. Also make sure your dealer supplies the unique thin slotted screw driver to properly adjust the quick detach lever tension. It should take about the same force to close the levers as it takes to slide the cocking piece forward.
I assume by deers you mean fallow? It is well know that the minimum required caliber for Sambar is the 505 Gibbs, some get away with the puny 416 Rem Magnum but it isn't a proper full power sambar gun, actually it is marginal and requires precise shot placement. (sorry, that is just a joke)

Welcome aboard. Appears you have your Blaser map all charted out for now.... Be warned hanging around with some of these guys will put you in the poor house. But at least you'll be happy when you get there.

G'Day Stace from the Snowy Mountains NSW. I unfortunately had to part with my Blaser in 2005 for monetary reasons & shot howa's etc. Just 2 weeks ago I put back in my hands a Offroad. You forget what a beautifully simplistic piece of the highest quality firearm that Blaser is. Yes, they are $$$ but the quality & functionality!!! Dave
